Hi there! My name is Kris, but everyone who knows me well calls me “Kritter.”
My Mumma gave me the nickname when I was five years old, from a cereal called Crispy Critters, and the name has stuck for the last five decades. I’m not complaining one bit, because I figure it takes one to know one. I love running around in the woods exploring, just like a good little critter would do.
Throughout my world travels, I came to realize that there are many wonderful and awe-inspiring places to visit, but none tug at my heart strings quite like my own backyard: the UP, the Yoop, the 906, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
And that’s how I became a self-proclaimed Yooper Ambassador. Check out our glossary of Yooper terminology if you’d like to learn a little bit of our language, because even folks downstate sometimes encounter a little culture shock UP here.
My husband and I own a vacation rental on Lost Lake, just a few minutes away from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Hiawatha National Forest. I realized that sharing suggestions with our guests on things to see and do in the area were WAY more fun than making beds and cleaning kitchens, so that’s why I started this website. I wanted a place for my guests to explore the gazillion options they have for fun in the central UP, and I also wanted them to have a space to share feedback on their faves.
This website is a work in progress, as this old Kritter learns a few new tricks related to using WordPress.
Thanks for stopping here! I can’t wait for you to experience the awe-inspiring beaty of this land and its people.
Be happy, be well.
Kritter
